Biot International Glass Festival
Festival celebrating blown glass, that makes the o...
As a river is rich in the multiple streams that make it up, glass creation is rich in all the experiences and research that have been conducted since its ancient beginnings.
For centuries glass creation has evolved: its geography, its practices, its productions, but also the representation we make of ourselves, observers, spectators or users, as well as the way creators look at ourselves.
It is loaded with an incredible amount of data, information, facts, actions, gestures, attempts, which should not be forgotten, and it is inseparable from the other stories: the history of arts and crafts, design, industry. It is the fruit of crossroads, of bridges stretched between disciplines and fields, of crossroads, sometimes unpublished.
Today, thanks to the commitment of many actors, there is indeed an energy at work on an international scale carried by artists, gallery owners, collectors, training and creation centres, museums, researchers, and of course communities.
The city of Biot, literally crossed by the history of glass - creators, renowned gallerists who have put the emphasis on the international character, researchers, all will recognize themselves - invites itself in this dynamic and wants to participate with this first edition of the Biot International Glass Festival. It is fundamental to celebrate glass in all its forms to help move borders, landmarks, rules...
The Glass is biotiful exhibition that unfolds before our eyes, an essential component of the festival, is a glimpse of this energy, a nod to diversity, quality and inventiveness.
Three guests of honour (Gabe Feenan, Richard Price, Gérald Vatrin) are presented to which eight other talented creators (autonomous, pairs or groups) selected by jury from about fifty entries were associated.
As they stroll through the different spaces of the building, spectators will be able to perceive the different universes, and will of course notice the technical virtuosities. But not only. They will also notice that the treatment of the medium is integrated into a wider creative process, leaving room for plastic and chromatic explorations, poetry, representation, messages: enough to fill the eyes, the imagination, to feel, vibrate and question themselves.
Free of charge.
From 21/09/2018 to 07/04/2019 except on bank holidays.
