Cesium fell into the pot, so to speak, when he was a child. His father was a glassmaker and taught him the basics of the trade. He was already familiar with the heat of the kilns and the ballet of glassmakers collecting molten glass
When you think about it, it's the 4 elements that are called upon to create a work in glass. These 4 elements are at the heart of Césium's work. Because they are the condition of life. In his works, each of the four elements is evoked by a shape, by a colour. They resonate with each other. They give Césium's works a real breadth, one that you can wander through. Depending on the angle of view and the lighting, you discover new perspectives, just like in nature.
There can be no life without nature. That's why Stephane CHION. chose "Cesium" as his artist's name. Because it's the name of an element found in nature that has the same initials as him: Cs. What's more, in Mendeleev's painting, Cesium bears the number 55. Twice the same number. Perfect for someone with a twin. There were two of them, in fact, who fell into the pot together. Their favourite playground, when they were 12, was the workshop of Nicolas Laty, a young glassmaker from Biot. He makes cartoon animals that give you a real buzz. He let them get close, marvel and play with glass. And the two brothers will be glassmakers: first the twin, Léo.
