From 750 B.C. onwards, the Greeks founded cities all over the Mediterranean basin, particularly in southern Italy and Sicily.
The geography of Sicily is very frequently "echoed" by mythological stories: the shape of a bay - the springs - the volcanoes - the mountains - the optical phenomena - the dangers of the sea - the earthquakes ... or how these gods, heroes and imaginary monsters give a real body to the island.
Through the stories and myths they brought with them, the Greeks made this new colony a part of their Olympus. One will meet there: The gods: Cronos, Hephaestus, Aeolus, Helios, Hades ... and the Monsters: the Giants, the Cyclops, Carybdis and Scylla as well as the Heroes who fight them, including Ulysses of course ...
The madness of the gods and the fear of mortals. The thwarted loves, the metamorphoses and the spells... for centuries, artists have been telling the adventures of these.
